Education & Experience

I graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in Education and English from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa.  After graduation, I worked for a short time in women's health care before an "earlier than planned" pregnancy changed the course of my life.  My daughter's birth in 2001 was a transformational experience for me; one that introduced me to the profound power pregnancy and birth can effect on a woman's life.  As a new mother, I decided to redirect my energy to helping other women find quality education, support, and empowerment as they too embarked on the adventure of birth.  In 2003, I became a Certified Birth Doula with DONA International.  I have been attending births both at home and in the hospital setting for more than 6 years.  Early in 2008, I expanded my scope of practice when I became certified to teach HypnoBirthing Childbirth Education Classes.  Today, I am fortunate to spend my time with my two amazing children and wonderfully supportive hubby when I am not teaching or doula-ing.
